MG HS 2.0 Turbo vs. KIA Sportage – 1-1 Comparison

0 6,978

The recently launched MG HS 2.0T with 226 horses is a case of three steps forward and one backward (fuel average). Its price undercuts the competition in the C-segment crossovers due to better performance figures, but it’s going to be more expensive to run due to its highly expensive spare parts pricing and not-so-good fuel economy due to a 2.0L turbocharged engine.

On the other hand, we’ve got the KIA Sportage, a 2.0L naturally aspirated C-segment crossover. If you’re looking for crossover advice from the local market, you’re likely to be recommended the Sportage, a popular option in the Pakistani market. Known for its built quality, good hi-techs, and smooth ride quality, the KIA Sportage is currently one of the strongest C-segment crossover options in terms of resale and market demand.

  • KIA Sportage Black Limited Edition: PKR 9,000,000
  • MG HS 2.0 Turbo: PKR 9,299,000

These are the two best competitors in terms of price budget.

Here we’re again with the recently launched MG HS 2.0 Turbo vs. KIA Sportage 1-1, 100% unbiased comparison review.

Pakwheels Un-bias POV on Both Cars

To be fair, the MG HS has a way better-looking interior than its South Korean counterparts. However, HS is not a car if you care only about resale and parts availability.

Jump inside, and first impressions are just adorable; while we think Jolion is better than HS in design aesthetics, HS is certainly not a bad deal. The interior is pretty simple and minimal. Everything looks upmarket and doesn’t feel clingy or cheap. The drive quality is good, not the best, but you probably wouldn’t have any complaints about it.

Thanks to its 2,000cc turbo engine, it does 0-100 in only 9.3 seconds, one of the fastest locally produced crossover in Pakistan. So, at 9.3 million PKR, this turbo-charged MG is a good value-for-money deal if you don’t have many issues with the resale and are planning to keep it for a long time.

On the contrary, KIA Sportage known for its good market value and solid build quality. You might not call it the best-looking crossover, but it’s good enough to make you turn your head and look at it every time you park.

The interior of Sportage follows an entirely different design language than MG HS, and it’s not possible to state the winner; it just depends on the taste of a person. It’s like comparing a German with a JDM; both are good in their respective categories.

From the outside, Sportage looks aggressive, and HS looks more like a crossover version of their 2-door coupe lineups (available internationally). Both look good to us, but our experts like the looks of Sportage’s exterior due to its tiger grille heightened headlights, bonnet, and glossy black rims.

However, power-wise, HS wins with over 76 more horses than Sportage, thanks to its turbo. However, due to turbo and our low-quality petrol, which is not suitable for turbo engines, we suspect the HS can barely do 8-9 Km/l in the city. Therefore, if fuel average is your serious concern, Sportage could be a better option.
